About Us
The Friendship Community Center (The Center) is a gathering space located in the heart of downtown Suttons Bay, dedicated to providing opportunities for intergenerational and multicultural community engagement.
From its origins as a funeral home, a retail store, a Grange Hall, and even the lunch spot for the local Rotary Club, the building that houses the Friendship Community Center has a storied history. After sitting empty for several years, a coalition of local women organized and raised funds through a loan and personal financial commitments to purchase the building in 1988.
The Center became home to an active group of senior citizens who hosted luncheons, formed a kitchen band, organized health clinics, and provided a venue for educational programs and the performing arts.
Over the years, the Center’s purpose has evolved as a central hub for all Leelanau County residents, and beyond, to connect and experience community connection. To support, inspire, and enhance the work of community efforts, The Center provides multi-use space available for classes, meetings, and gatherings. Our network of community partnerships brings programs and services to The Center that reflect our diverse community and support their needs.

Ultimately, we are your small-town community center with big dreams to empower our region through connection and belonging.
