The Friendship Community Center Announces $10,000 Challenge Gift for Operational Needs

 

Suttons Bay, Michigan, June 1, 2026 —The Friendship Community Center (The Center) is pleased to announce a significant financial milestone in continuing its existing day-to-day operations as a community resource. A generous donor has pledged a $10,000 challenge gift to support The Center’s operations. To receive these funds, The Center must raise an additional $10,000 in matching contributions from the community, with a goal of July 4th for completing community fundraising that, to-date, has recently passed the 50% point. 

 

Located in the heart of Suttons Bay, The Center has been a vital resource and gathering space for the Leelanau County community since its building was first constructed in 1853. The Center is entering a new chapter and looks forward to receiving community input regarding expanding its programs, activities and special events that will enrich community life. Leelanau Investing for Teens (LIFT) which previously was under the umbrella of The Center, is now its own independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit that operates out of the community schools and no longer utilizes space at The Center.   

 

As The Center refocuses its mission, it remains anchored in its core values including Vibrancy, Authenticity, and Diversity & Inclusivity. The funds raised and matching gift will be utilized for short-term operations and building maintenance to support existing programs and services. 

 

Every gift, regardless of size, brings The Center closer to securing the full $10,000 matching amount and ensuring The Center remains a vital and vibrant community resource that is available to connect people of all ages and backgrounds.
